ECCO Steel got involved: Three blocks of 849 units of high rise serviced apartments sitting atop commercial shop offices in Setapak, north of Kuala Lumpur.
Its impressive facilities include a jogging trail, infinity pool, futsal court, half basketball court and squash court that overlooks a gorgeous view of Kuala Lumpur’s city centre.
Given the project’s build up and location, there was limited space on site to store building materials like reinforcement mesh. ECCO Steel was approached to produce engineering mesh, delivered just in time to the site according to Kenwingston Platz’s required building schedule.

Situated on the 10th floor, it required strong structural steel support
In lieu of on site storage constraints, ECCO Steel designed and manufactured engineering mesh according to Kenwingston Platz’s construction drawings. Opting for an engineering mesh solution meant that site personnel could unload and have the cut-to-size mesh ready for concrete casting immediately upon its arrival at site. This resulted in an estimated 15% savings on labour for the contractor compared to using standard-sized mesh that would still need to await on-site processing before it can be used.
Furthermore, with the site facing the busy main road, unloading during peak hours would result in a major traffic jam as the delivery lorries would block traffic on the main road. Hence, ECCO Steel specifically arranged for the deliveries of engineering mesh to reach the site before 8am to prevent congestion of traffic, enabling a smooth, stress-free unloading process for the contractor.

To top things off, thanks to the use of engineering mesh designed by ECCO Steel, the reinforcement steel material required for Kenswington Platz could be reduced by up to 20% as compared to using standard sized steel wire mesh. This translates directly into 20% in steel material savings for the contractor!
